Chennai: Pointing out that Tamil Nadu has played a historic role in enriching India’s civilisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the state will play a crucial role as the country moves towards the goal of becoming a developed nation. Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi referred to the Sangam-era literature, scientific traditions, temples and technological contributions of the region and said Tamil Nadu has always enhanced India’s pride.
What did PM Narendra Modi say?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre has put in a lot of effort to ensure development in Tamil Nadu over the last decade. Addressing a public rally, Modi alleged that when the United Progressive Alliance was in power, the state received minimal funds from the Centre.
PM Modi also claimed that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had broken the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu despite winning a full majority twice in the state. The prime minister alleged that the DMK has made “heaps of promises” but has failed to deliver, leading to no development in Tamil Nadu. He also claimed that the people of the state were now referring to the DMK administration as a “CMC government,” which he said stood for “Corruption, Mafia and Crime.”
The enthusiasm at Madhuranthakam reflects a clear mood. Tamil Nadu wants freedom from DMK’s misgovernance. The NDA is the people’s preferred choice. https://t.co/8gUpScYWMk

The Prime Minister's remarks come amidst the controversy surrounding the Sabarimala gold theft case, which has turned into a political storm. The case pertains to the alleged embezzlement of gold from the door frames and plates covering the guardian deities of the temple's sanctum sanctorum. The investigation is currently being conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kerala Police, acting on the orders of the state High Court.
PM Modi claimed that for decades, both the LDF and UDF have neglected Thiruvananthapuram, leaving the city deprived of basic amenities and infrastructure. He said, "The Left and the Congress have consistently failed to meet the needs of our people. However, our BJP team has started working towards the development of Thiruvananthapuram. To the people of the city, I want to say – have faith, the change you have been waiting for so long is finally coming."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a big promise to the people of Kerala regarding the gold theft at the Sabarimala temple. On Friday, he said that if the BJP comes to power in the state, the Sabarimala gold case will be investigated and the culprits will be sent to jail. He said this is Modi's guarantee.
PM Modi said, "All of us across the country have unwavering faith in Lord Ayyappa. However, the LDF government has left no stone unturned in harming the traditions of the Sabarimala temple. Now, reports of gold theft are emerging from there. There are reports of gold being stolen from the temple, right from near the deity. I want to make one thing clear: as soon as a BJP government is formed here, these allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the culprits will be put behind bars."
"Landed in Thiruvananthapuram to a rousing welcome. That warmth and energy was evident throughout the roadshow. This reflects the growing faith in the BJP, as evident in the election results in the corporation," PM Modi said in a statement on social media.
"With the blessings of the people, the BJP-NDA alliance is committed to providing development, better civic services and a brighter future to this vibrant city," the statement added.
